Hybrid Program | Diagnostic Medical Sonography Overview
As you master scanning protocols and imaging techniques with our hybrid Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, you’ll gain the skills and potential clinical experience to be a valuable member of healthcare teams. You’ll learn how to take sonograms, identify anatomy within these scans, adapt techniques to identify pathology, interpret findings, and more. In 20 months, our interactive program prepares students to confidently take vital signs, sterilize examination rooms, and provide patient-focused care.

DMS Program Accreditation
Accreditation is a process used to measure and certify the credibility and quality of services offered by an organization.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate Degree Program at CBD College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Students are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) examination for Abdomen prior to graduation.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program provides a full Abdomen, OB/Gyn and Vascular Sonography curriculum of study. Students may be eligible to take the registry exam for OB/Gyn and/or Vascular registry immediately after graduation by completing the clinical requirements for the ARDMS and passing the ARDMS Abdomen exam first.
Students completing the program may also sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination for general sonography and earn the Radiography Technologist Sonography RT(S) credential or the Radiography Technologist Vascular Sonography RT(VS).
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), working through the Joint Review Commission of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS), accredits the CBD College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

Students completing the program are eligible to sit for the national registry exam given by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen.

What You Will Do as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
Diagnostic Medical Sonographers are responsible for many essential tasks, including:
- Preparing patients for procedures and obtaining, reviewing, and integrating patient history and supporting clinical data
- Preparing and maintaining diagnostic imaging equipment
- Performing appropriate ultrasound scanning examinations and procedures
- Recognizing the differences between normal and abnormal images and other diagnostic information
- Analyzing images and recording data for interpretation by a physician
- Recording findings and keeping track of patients’ records
- Demonstrating excellent communication skills with patients and other health care professionals, and acting in an ethical and professional manner
- Providing appropriate and compassionate patient care for patients undergoing ultrasound examinations
