What is the Difference Between an Online and Hybrid Medical Program?

Published - August 14, 2024

Are you interested in completing a medical program? You have options. Many medical programs are offered online and in hybrid formats. We understand how important a flexible schedule is to you, so we provide medical programs in both online and hybrid formats.

What is an Online Program?

An online program is entirely virtual. Lectures are completed through video conferencing software, instructors’ office hours are attended virtually, and the student never needs to commute to campus. All lectures and training are completed from a remote location.

What is a Hybrid Program?

In a traditional classroom, you attend lectures by commuting to campus and sitting in front of an instructor. The hybrid program offers virtual classroom lectures and in-person clinical lab time, allowing you guidance and immediate feedback from instructors during hands-on training.

What is the Difference Between an Online and Hybrid Medical Program?

There are differences between an online and hybrid medical program. Some of the differences include:

Hands-on Experience

Many programs require hands-on experience to prepare for the role. Medical programs, in particular, involve working with expensive medical equipment. Equipment that is not easily taken home. For example, working with an MRI machine is best done during in-person lab time, while lectures can happen virtually; for programs like medical billing and coding, the lectures and hands-on experience can happen virtually as the student doesn’t need to sit in class for lectures and they will have access to the software tools that are used on the job.

A Short Commute

While an online medical program is completed virtually, the hybrid version includes some time on campus in the classroom. Not all medical programs can be completed virtually, so a hybrid format is used and the student must commute occasionally to the campus.

Patient Interaction

For medical programs that interact with patients, it is vital for students to complete some of their training in person. Many of the medical programs offered by CBD College allow you to use industry-standard medical equipment and interact face-to-face with patients. This helps build your confidence, so you are ready when you start your new career.

Complete Curriculum

The hybrid curriculum is the same as you would get by attending online. We don’t cut corners, and neither should you. Regardless of where you learn, you should gain the same knowledge and skills for your new career.
